During a crisp fall game against the Kentucky Wildcats way back in 1914. Cincinnati’s star fullback. Teddy Baehr (really!). inspired one cheerleader to improvise a surprisingly catchy chant: They may be Wildcats. but we have a Baehr-cat on our side. The raucous crowd followed. and by the next-day’s school newspaper. a cartoonist had immortalized the Baehr-cats for the ages. Only one minor edit: BEARcats. The rest is history.
